The best of Breda, from your front door
You sleep in the heart of the old town. The Grote Kerk is next door, and everything that makes Breda great is a few minutes away on foot.
- 01
Grote Kerk (Church of Our Lady)
Our next-door neighbour: the Gothic church with its 97-metre tower. Inside you will find, among other things, the tomb of Engelbrecht II of Nassau. - 02
Havermarkt
The little square at the foot of the church, lined with terraces. Perfect for a drink in the late afternoon. - 03
Breda Beguinage (Begijnhof)
A quiet courtyard with a herb garden, further along our own Catharinastraat. One of the few beguinages in the Netherlands where women still live today. - 04
Valkenberg Park
The green city park next to the Begijnhof, once the castle garden. Lovely for a morning walk or a picnic. - 05
Kasteelplein & Breda Castle
The Nassau family's castle now houses the Royal Military Academy. You can only see inside on a guided tour; the square itself is always open. - 06
Spanjaardsgat water gate
The castle's old water gate, with two towers on the water. One of the most photographed spots in Breda. - 07
Stedelijk Museum Breda
Breda's art and history in the former Oudemannenhuis almshouse on Boschstraat. A good pick for a rainy afternoon.
Breda
Wondering where to stay in Breda? Pick the old town, so you can leave the car behind. That is exactly where Sutor is, with the Grote Kerk as our next-door neighbour.
Within two minutes you are on a terrace on the Havermarkt or the Grote Markt, and in fifteen minutes you can stroll past the Begijnhof, through Valkenberg Park and across the Kasteelplein to the Spanjaardsgat. Museums, shops and restaurants are all within walking distance.
Coming by train? It is roughly a 12 to 15-minute walk from Breda station to Catharinastraat, with direct trains from Rotterdam, Schiphol and Antwerp, among others. Coming by car? Park in one of the municipal garages, such as De Barones or Chassé Parking, and walk the last stretch.
We have no private parking. Below are our favourite spots around the corner, with the walking time from our front door.
By train
From Breda station it is a 12 to 15-minute walk through the centre to Catharinastraat. With heavy luggage, a bus or taxi is a good alternative.
By car
Sutor has no private parking and the old town around the Grote Kerk is largely car-free. Park in one of the municipal garages, such as De Barones, Chassé Parking or Het Turfschip; from there it is a 7 to 10-minute walk to the hotel.
